Designer Preview Obstruction Model
When on line, the obstruction model in the designer preview is not consistent between everyone in the same studio. Fixed.

Designer Preview Analysis at Console
When previewing a ship in the designer, the Tab key does not show ship stats when I sit at a console, like it does in the game. Fixed.

Designer Preview Hull Effects
Hull effects to show FTL drive operation and damage do not work in the design preview. Fixed.

Designer Preview Buildings
Buildings can now be previewed in the designer. This is done by creating some terrain on which you can place the building. The building is instantly completed and does not go through a construction phase. You can place as many as you like.

Designer Preview Environment
Spacecraft and building designers now present options for choosing an environment. The building designer offers all environments where there is terrain to construct buildings. The spacecraft designer offers most of those, plus two with no terrain at all.
  • Under sea and gas giant environments are presented with usable visibility, given that you don't have any lights in the solo designer. Sea depth does not darken the scene. Fog effects of viewing through liquids are less dense.
  • Your naked avatar is not harmed by anything.
  • Things in zero-g do not fall. Your avatar can move EVA without a suit without falling and the spacecraft will not fall from orbit if it cannot fly.
  • The empty space environment does not reposition everyone in the spacecraft designer, which is nicer when multiple people are in the same studio. All other environments will reposition everyone in the studio, something to be considered when other people are present.
  • You cannot forage from the environment.
  • Top-down view does not show any overlays of information. None of it is useful in the preview.
  • Spotting things does not reveal your location in the universe.
  • There is no wildlife or indigenous village.
Designer Preview Lighting
When in the designer preview, the Designer Settings window adjusts lighting. It does this by rotating your globe on its axis, or by moving the shadow panels on a ringworld. The change is local to your client. Other people in the same designer are not affected by this change.

When previewing a building, you can turn power on/off to the buildings on the terrain. Buildings on a ringworld always have power so the check box does nothing there.

Building facade window lighting turns on/off according to light level in the environment. The animation happens much faster than in the game so you can observe the pattern.

Invite Teleport to Arena
The comm message to invite someone to teleport to your location is now disabled while you are in an arena. Likewise, the comm message to accept an invitation to teleport is disabled while you are in an arena.

Ground Texture at Building on Ringworld
The ground texture is not correct at building sites on a ringworld. The site is graded but it does not get the pavement texture. Fixed.

Building Site on Gas Giant
Building sites on gas giants are not graded or textured properly. My test building sometimes leveled a small spot of the terrain, with a bit of pavement texture, not the entire site. Fixed.

Primeval World Crash
Primeval world crashes if you make a space vehicle and leave the solar system. Fixed. You cannot leave the solar system in primeval world.

Building Placement Lag
Optimized the creation of the edge lines cursor when placing a new building. It is much quicker now.

Ringworld Control Center
The ringworld statue at the ringworld control center can show a model of the sun in the center and the day/night areas as if that sun were the source of light. Previously, it only showed this to people standing in the control center holding a preon in their hand. Now you don't have to hold a preon; just stand at the control center.

Fun ringworld statue facts:
  • The ringworld statue rotates around the model of the sun, in conjunction with the ringworld's rotation around the real sun, which takes a year like a habitable world would. A game year is about 13 days.
  • The shadow panels of the statue rotate around the model of the sun, in conjunction with the real shadow panels, timed to create day length night and day cycles.
  • The location of the control center appears on the ringworld statue as a glowing dot, sort of a You Are Here marker.

In a word, Nice.
I've been hoping to see a more in depth preview for a while now.

This should also help to test building designs for placement lag, and adjust them accordingly.

I approve.

I'm now tempted by the idea of holographic system and galaxy maps on our ships...

It would be handy to have a design studio aboard.

Enter design studio on ship in space, place design studio station in that design, enter design station in preview mode.
Then design and simulate a design studio building.
