2017-12-21 Roads, Fires, Craters

Roads
Roads and landscape areas can now be built using the new construction window.
  • NPCs do not currently construct these roads; they will.
  • Labor for building all roads (including old roads) is now 1/100 the previous calculation.
  • Materials for road construction are fetched directly from the environment.
  • Mouse wheel and up/down arrow keys change the draw point elevation relative to the terrain, for making ramps, walls, canals and trenches.
Construction Blocked by Enemy
The presence of any enemy unit on a world prevents construction of new things or demolition of existing things.

Craters
As mentioned in my previous post, kinetic explosions now create craters in the terrain.
  • The radius of a crater is 75% of the blast radius of the explosion.
  • Craters last forever, until the planet decays or until removed.
  • The bulldozer button on the construction window will delete them.
  • There is a maximum number of craters that can exist on a world. Once the limit is reached, the oldest ones get removed when new ones are added. The max is a big number, less than 100.
Bomb Explosion Effect
The explosion visual effect when a bomb exploded did not match the blast radius of the weapon. It was about 1/2 the size. It is fixed.

Bomb Decay
Bombs dropped onto the ground from an aircraft would often fail to explode when they hit the terrain. That is fixed.

Bomb Suicide
Bombs dropped from a space fighter would sometimes hit the space fighter itself. That is fixed. The bombs won't hit the vehicle that drops them.

Arm and Drop Bug
The right click action to arm a plastic explosive and drop it in place had the wrong icon and it didn't work. It just dropped the item without arming it. That is fixed.

Fire
Things will catch fire now.
  • Vehicles
    • Fire ignites when vehicle health is 10% or less.
    • Fire ignites sometimes when vehicles are damaged by heat.
    • Fire causes continuous damage to burning vehicles.
    • Fire is extinguished when health is greater than 10%.
    • Fire is extinguished when service is requested at an airport or hangar deck.
  • Buildings
    • Fire ignites when building structural health is 10% or less.
    • Fire ignites sometimes when buildings are damaged by heat.
    • Fire causes continuous damage to burning buildings.
    • Fire is extinguished by fire station. (Not implemented yet.)
  • Spacecraft
    • Fire ignites when spacecraft structural health is 10% or less.
    • Fire causes continuous damage to burning spacecraft.
    • Fire is extinguished when structural health is greater than 10%.
  • Creatures
    • Fire ignites sometimes when creatures are damaged by heat.
    • Fire causes continuous damage to burning creatures.
    • Fire can be extinguished using water, either on yourself or on someone else.
    • Fire can be extinguished by submerging a burning creature in water.
Acid
Acid can now be removed by submerging a creature in water.
It could already be removed by using water on yourself or an afflicted creature. Acid can also be removed at a surgery station, if the ship has water in the hold.

Building Extents Rule Change
Changed the rule for building design so the building extents now just have to be contained within the box extents of the site meshes.
Previously, some portion of the building itself was required to encompass the origin. This created a placement conflict. Ideally the origin of the blueprint would be at the front edge of the site, so it can be aligned with roads easily.
I will change the default sites so they are created this way. Currently, they are created with the origin at the center.

Does this include enemies in orbit? Or only in the atmosphere?
I am hoping orbit/gravity-well too.

Can you add a nice "air raid siren" sound when enemies are detected by the world then?

  • Spacecraft
    • Fire ignites when spacecraft structural health is 10% or less.
    • Fire causes continuous damage to burning spacecraft.
    • Fire is extinguished when structural health is greater than 10%.
  • ...

So if a spacecraft is damaged below 10% and starts burning, how faster will it take damage?
Will I be able to manually repair the spacecraft faster than it is being damaged? Or will I have to rush to a repair shop?

Maybe a "supply console station" would be useful by now, managing vehicles, cargo, spare parts manufacturing, fire extinguishers system and such?

To block construction/demolition, an enemy unit must be on the ground or in a building.

In action. Also, now I see why bombs that blow up next to a troop might not actually nuke the troop - turns out the craters are not exactly where the bombs go!

I also noticed that, as if they are penetrating the terrain some distance before exploding. It could lead to some improvements.

Looks more like they hit terrain at the sea level.

Lighting someone or something on fire allows you to kill them without punishment.

Mr. Mortius set me on fire and I died, yet it is treated as an accidental death and not a diplomatic incident.

Please record who/what started the fire/bleeding and give them proper credit for the MURDER.
Same issue has been there with officers for ages. See: (Bug report) Useless Officer Death Mail
